Cottage Home Inks Pact For McClendon Land

A Holland-based lakeshore homebuilder and designer has signed agreement to buy almost all “The Wild Heart of Saugatuck.”

Cottage Home owner Brian Bosgraaf, with financial backing from Padnos Iron and Metal Co. president Jeff Padnos and his wife, Peg, told The Commercial Record his firm plans to close within 30 to 60 days on 309 acres fronting Lake Michigan north of the Kalamazoo River after agreeing on terms with current owner Singapore Dunes LLC.

Brian Bosgraaf, president of Cottage Home, says the “Watershed Lake House” has most of the options and features he wants his customers to consider when they design their own projects.

“Our model homes are completely loaded up,” says Bosgraaf, whose company has built more than 100 high-end homes during the past 16 years. He recently put the home at 1609 South Shore Drive on the market for $2.195 million.

Cottage Home Named LEED Home Power Builder

Cottage Home Receives Six LEED® Designations for 2015

Cottage Home announced that six of the company’s new homes have achieved LEED® Certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) this year.

The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) as a way to provide standards for environmentally sustainable construction.

The new homes, which vary in style from city loft to lakefront cottage, were designed and built by Cottage Home with the goal of affording luxury living while also delivering sustainable qualities in materials, systems and lifestyle. The homes and their LEED designations are:

Cottage Home Receives LEED Platinum Certification for Homes

Cottage Home, designers and builders of well appointed beach houses and cottages, have achieved United States Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED® for Homes Platinum certification for the design and construction of two new West Michigan lakeshore homes. The LEED Green Building Rating System is the USGBC’s leading ranking classification reserved for the world’s greenest, most energy-efficient buildings. Cottage Home’s Shoreline Idea House and Suequehanna Lake Home achieved this designation by following the rigorous design and construction guidelines of the LEED for Homes certification program.

The sustainable design of these homes provides many benefits including lower energy and water bills, greater efficiency and comfort, reduced exposure to mold, mildew and other toxins, and fewer greenhouse gas emissions. Because of these benefits, the trend toward greener home design and construction is growing both nationwide and along the West Michigan lakeshore.

The Shoreline Idea House is located adjacent to the Wau-Ke-Na (“forest-by-the-water”), the largest of the Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy’s preserves, and is surrounded by forests, fields, streams, ponds, bluffs, and beaches. This 3764 sq. ft. house contains 6 bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms and an additional 1346 sq. ft. of porch space.

The Suequehanna Lake Home is located on one of four home sites in the Suequehanna, or “pure water” community in Glenn, Michigan. This exclusive Cottage Home sanctuary was designed with an emphasis on state-of-the-art sustainable living in a pristine natural setting. Each of the four homes are designed and built to LEED standards. Cottage Home Builds First LEED Certified Homes in South Haven

Lakefront Homes Receive Gold and Silver Certification From The U.S. Green Building Council

Holland, Michigan… Cottage Home announced today that the company’s two lakefront homes on Monroe Boulevard in South Haven have received LEED® Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for achievement in green homebuilding and design. The Monroe Beach House at 850 Monroe Boulevard was awarded LEED Gold certification, while the neighboring home at 862 Monroe Boulevard was awarded LEED Silver.

LEED for Homes is a green home certification system for assuring homes are designed and built to be energy – and resource – efficient and healthy for occupants. LEED certified homes must meet a technically rigorous and complex set of specifications that include: construction process, materials, location, design, a home energy (HERS) rating, and onsite inspections to verify that the home is built to be energy and water efficient, environmentally sound, and a healthier place to live.

Completed last summer, the two new homes are the first LEED Certified homes in the city of South Haven. The homes were built by Cottage Home, who specializes in the design and construction of lakefront LEED homes. Through this commitment to green homebuilding, Cottage Home is assuring that homeowners benefit from sustainable technologies, reduced carbon footprint and comfortable living. Cottage Home has built six LEED Certified homes, all of which are on the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan.

Some of the LEED features in the two Cottage Homes intended to reduce energy usage include low-e argon windows, special Icynene® insulation, 2×6 exterior wall systems, CFL and LED light fixtures, bath fan timers, and a high efficiency boiler system for radiant heat and domestic hot water in the Monroe Beach House, among many other technical specifications. Other unique selections were implemented as well, including locally harvested white oak flooring and recycled glass shower tile.

LEED certification is as much about design and preparation as it is the implementation of various systems and building specifications, so efficient material planning and usage on the job sites were also key factors in the high levels of certification, as well as the construction waste recycling system that was employed during construction. This resourceful planning has lead to cost savings for the homeowners and two outstanding sustainable and efficient Lake Michigan homes.

Brian Accepts HBA Board Position

Brian Bosgraaf was recently inducted as a member of the Home Builder’s Association of the Holland Area Board of Directors, and will serve a three year term. The mission of the Holland HBA is to “foster an economic and social climate that stimulates the planning, construction, remodeling, and marketing of quality homes.”
